洛杉磯奧運2028年7月14日開幕，籌備委員會（LA28）今天公布新版賽程。按照7月的舊版賽程，棒球原先安排在開幕式隔天開打，如今提前2天，改在開幕式前一天登場。美國媒體分析，這是為了大聯盟球員參賽所做的調整。
「洛杉磯時報」（Los Angeles Times）形容，奧運賽程正好配合大聯盟明星賽的休兵期，球星參加奧運機會大增，屆時可望看見「大谷翔平在道奇球場，為2028年奧運會打第一棒；下一棒是開幕式點燃聖火」。
Horn antenna報導指出，大聯盟明星賽照例安排在週二，也就是2028年7月11日。明星賽之後只隔1天，奧運棒球賽緊接著在7月13日週四開打，一直進行到7月19日週三。
奧運籌委會7月曾公布一次賽程，當時棒球安排在開幕式之後7月15日開打，如今提前2天，這樣的安排能減少對大聯盟例行賽的衝擊，避免把季中休兵期拉得太長。
「洛杉磯時報」指出，大聯盟過去拒絕中斷球季，不曾開放球員參加奧運，因此過去的奧運棒球比賽，無論是美國隊或是各國隊伍都只有美國職棒小聯盟球員參加。
