納達爾（Rafael Nadal）連續2年未在溫網出賽，今年再度踏上草地戰場，首輪面對來自阿根廷的新星塞朗多羅（Francisco Cerundolo），以6：4，6：3，3：6，6：4勝出，並且在賽後呼籲所有人不用擔心他的傷勢：「別再談論我的腳了，談談跟網球有關的東西吧！」

納達爾在前2盤只丟失1局發球局，穩穩取得2：0的領先，但在第3盤遭到反擊，塞朗多羅在局數3：3平手時連拿3局，收下第3盤，而第4盤更乘著這股氣勢，在第4局時連拿4分破發納達爾，取得3：1的領先，但薑是老的辣，納達爾即時回穩，沒有再給對手機會，最終以6：4在第4盤結束比賽。

納達爾在賽後訪問說：「今天我還會回答跟我腳傷相關的問題，但之後不會了，你們不能每天都只問我腳傷的狀況，然後把場上發生的事都忘記！」呼籲大家別再擔心他的傷勢，而他也稱讚對手塞朗多羅：「獻上我的敬意給他，他是個非常頑強的對手。」

納達爾在這場比賽發生了41次非受迫性失誤，他也談到：「草地一直以來都不算是我的主戰場，過去3年我也幾乎沒有參加草地賽事，所以首輪的比賽對我來說是場考驗，可以檢視自己的狀況，而我也通過了這場考驗，對此我很開心，我需要這場勝利來振奮自己。」
