69歲蔡琴日前在草莓音樂節表示明年底打算告別歌壇，讓歌迷不捨。她究竟是如何動念退休計劃？她今提到：「明年是我拿麥克風的第48年，其實想了許久，應該要在最好的情況下，和觀眾致謝與道別。」
蔡琴說草莓音樂節的觀眾族群很年輕，「我猜可能也不太認識我，但沒想到這些年輕人竟然淋著雨聽我唱完歌。距上次的音樂節演出已相隔8年，難得相見，很感動，於是我告訴大家唱到明年底就告別歌壇。」
她想想這麼多年的歌唱生涯，累積了四代的觀眾，演唱會近乎場場全滿，「我不應該一聲不響，或在某場演唱會的最後一首歌才說『這是我最後一場演唱會』。這樣做我會自責太對不起觀眾；應該要一場一場的去唱去告別，要親自看到觀眾，說出深深的謝謝。」
其實去年巡演的「不要告別」，就是蔡琴的告別演唱會，「唱完了，大家卻都不知道，這正是我要的告別氣氛！因為我不想留下的只有依依不捨，我想要大家聽得很滿足，聽完後能得到安慰，得到美好！這才是我要的告別演唱會！」
這次「不要告別」的迴響很大，很多城市邀約不斷，並且也有要求返場，但蔡琴都還沒答應。「台灣例外；今年9月就是告別演唱會的台灣返場。因為我是台灣培養出來的歌手」。至於明年底，真正收官，不再上舞台。台灣有沒有「最後的返場」？她說：「就要看台灣觀眾的反應；也要能排得出檔期啊。現在真的不確定。」蔡琴「不要告別」巡迴演唱會門票熱賣中。
