NBA總冠軍賽金州勇士衛冕失利，只差一勝，最終被克里夫蘭騎士以4：3完成翻盤逆轉，想起輸球的痛和被逆轉的陰影，勇士總教練柯爾（Steve Kerr）說，那是永遠無法撫平的傷痛。

正在美國拉斯維加斯賭城NBA夏季聯盟觀戰的柯爾，跟媒體聊起了今年總冠軍賽失利，也令他想起1988年美國大學NCAA最後四強決賽，柯爾所屬的亞歷桑那大學輸給奧克拉荷馬大學。柯爾說：「我永遠無法走出那層陰影。」

不過，柯爾非常幸運，就在勇士輸球，輸掉NBA總冠軍後兩周，勇士得到自由球員市場最大咖杜蘭特（Kevin Durant）加盟，整支勇士隊和整個灣區重新燃起奪冠希望。

柯爾表示，「有機會成為一支特別的球隊，擁有人人稱羨的天賦，確實令人感到興奮，但這個聯盟沒有什麼事是絕對的，我們剛打出一個單季73勝的賽季，最終卻輸掉總冠軍，我們還有很多重要的工作要做。」

為了得到杜蘭特，勇士失去兩名先發伯加特（Andrew Bogut）和巴恩斯（Harrison Barnes），也失去三名得力替補角色球員厄席利（Festus Ezeli ）、巴柏沙（Leandro Barbosa）和史培特斯（Marreese Speights）。

「過去兩年我們辛苦建立的團隊、默契必須重整，我們現在擁有的天賦非常出色，但更重要的課題是如何幫助他們發揮作用，找到一起打球的方式。」柯爾談說明勇士新賽季的局面和即將面臨的挑戰。

柯爾說：「我非常幸運，過去兩年可以執教這麼多具有天賦的球員，在這些基礎上我們今年球季又得到杜蘭特，毫無疑問我是最幸運的教練。」
