5月8日為二次世界大戰終戰70周年，歐洲各國紛紛盛大紀念，波蘭政府7日午夜在格但斯克港市率先舉行紀念儀式，出席者包括保加利亞、捷克、羅馬尼亞、烏克蘭等國總統和聯合國秘書長潘基文，但俄羅斯總統普丁未受邀，似乎是刻意對他冷落。

格但斯克紀念儀式以21響禮炮開場，波蘭總統科莫羅夫斯基致詞時表示，二次大戰係由希特勒與史達林分別領導的兩個極權政府聯手發動。1939年9月1日，德國軍艦炮擊格但斯克，為二戰揭開序幕。

德、英、法、美等國8日分別舉行紀念儀式。德國總統高克在蘇聯軍人公墓獻花，國會召開特別院會。英國政府在倫敦追悼陣亡將士。法國訂5月8日為國定假日（歐洲勝利日），紀念最為盛大，奧朗德總統在巴黎凱旋門的無名將士塚獻花。

俄羅斯9日慶祝衛國戰爭勝利70周年，將舉行盛大閱兵。
