兩度退休後再次復出的美國「飛魚」菲爾普斯，8日在里約奧運男子400公尺接力賽與隊友通力合作以3分09秒92成績擊敗上屆冠軍法國隊，不但替美國隊拿下該項目金牌，同時也是他個人在4屆奧運會所拿到的第19面金牌，成為奧運史上第一人，而這項紀錄還有可能持續增加。
