英國大選選情緊繃，結果在未竟之天，蘇格蘭民族黨（SNP）卻來勢洶洶，聲勢浩大。愛丁堡5月的天空看來雖然灰暗，可望在這次大選中於蘇格蘭獲得壓倒性勝利的SNP黨魁史特金告訴選民，「蘇格蘭的前景一片陽光！」

包括自民黨黨魁克萊格、英國獨立黨（UKIP）黨魁法拉吉，以及SNP前黨魁薩蒙德出馬競選的幾個邊緣選區，被視為足以決定這次選舉後如何組成政的關鍵席位。

自民黨黨魁克萊格有可能失去他在英格蘭雪菲爾哈蘭選區的席位，以及國會議員的工作。克萊格被視為傾向與保守黨繼續共組執政聯盟，若他敗選，未來政局將更複雜。

UKIP黨魁法拉吉首次出馬角逐英國國會議員，他的參選區南薩尼特過去一直是保守黨的山頭堡，他是否攻堅成功，尚待觀察。法拉吉表示，若敗選將立即辭去UKIP黨魁。果真如此，將為英國政局帶來新變數。

在蘇格蘭工黨傳統票倉佩斯利和南瑞費郡，工黨重量級黨員亞歷山大極可能輸給年僅20歲的SNP候選人布萊克。若果真如此，這將是SNP在蘇格蘭擊潰工黨的主要象徵。

此外，SNP前黨魁薩蒙德在蘇格蘭戈登區預料將可輕易擊敗自民黨，成功當選英國國會議員。薩蒙德進入倫敦西敏宮國會，代表的不只是SNP的成功，並可能在選後扮演協商要角。綜觀前述，莫怪可望奪下蘇格蘭59國會席位中50多席的SNP，宣稱蘇格蘭的前景一片陽光普照。
