雖然稍前的"Leaving on a Jet Plane"
已經樹立了他歌曲寫作者的名聲，
但是那支歌1970年在排名榜上奪冠之作，
卻是由Peter, Paul and Mary三人團演唱的。
一直到隔一年，John Denver 自己演唱的

1971年在排行榜爬升至第二名，
