In my writing of the day before yesterday, "Poor Box Office", I prayed that blackout won't befall Taiwan during Summer Universiade in Taipei.  But less than 48 hours the doom did happen.  Well, my words just hit the mark.

The capacity of total yearly electricity largely represents the scale of power pertaining to a country or an area. ("Power" also means the public supply of electricity.)  According to following report, the number one of the world in electricity supply was China's Mainland in 2016, while China's Taiwan acquitted itself fairly well, ranking as #18, in the standings, and its capacity was about one twenty-third of that of China's Mainland, which coincided with the ratio in GDP comparison.

With ample power supply, no wonder China has been described as an economic powerhouse, while the power failure happened yesterday demonstrated a bleak future of economic doldrums in Taiwan.
