在國會9日進行的表決中，因為部份新世界黨議員倒戈才使彈劾案得以通過，新世界黨的對立更形加深。35名新世界黨國會議員已經決定，將在12月27日正式退黨。他們並表示，將說服更多議員加入他們的行動。

新世界黨的分裂，將使聯合國秘書長潘基文回國參選總統的事情複雜化。一般認為，將在12月31日卸任105過年 聯合國秘書長的潘基文，將回南韓，代表新世界黨投入總統選戰。
