我常接到英文email，信末寫著：Please kindly give me a reply （請回覆）。
很多人用Kindly 這個字，以為這樣更客氣，其實是誤會。

kindly並不是很客氣的說法。《朗文高級辭典》kindly 條的解釋是： 「Kindly 意思是請，但經常表示，說話的人覺得被打擾的時候用的。」

Longman exam dictionary:Kindly is a word which means please, but is used by the speaker when he is annoyed (so it is used 'ironically', in a sense)

英語學者John Bremner提到 kindly:"Kindly" is stronger and more formal than "please" and tends to connote the idea of "Do this -- or else" （ Kindly 比 please語氣強，更正式，往往帶「你要這樣做─ ─否則」含義）。

kindly 有 please 的意思，兩字不必並用； kindly有不滿意味，例如：Kindly turn the radio down while I am working. （我在工作，請你把收音機調小聲一點）。這一句的kindly是較強烈的要求。

要客客氣氣的說「請」，please 比 kindly 簡單而自然。
Current English Usage 說 ： Do not use "kindly" in requests where "please" will do （提出要求，可以說please ,就不要說 kindly ）。

Kindly和please不是沒有互用的時候，舉例如下：
（ 1 ） Kindly shut the door（ 請關上門 ） 。
（ 2 ） Would you kindly leave me alone （ 請不要打擾我） 。

第一句的kindly可用please取代 ， 第二句的 kindly 則有不滿含義，不宜改 為 please 。
