Janice is the assistant to the president of the Taiwan Gadget Company. One of her tasks is to take messages for him when he is out of town or in an important meeting.
Janice 是 Taiwan Gadget Company 董事長的助理。她的職責之一就是當董事長不在公司或是正在開會時,幫他紀錄留言。


Janice: Hello. Mr. Chang's office.
Janice:嗨,Mr. Chang 辦公室,您好。

Dan: Hello. May I speak with Mr. Paul Chang?
Dan:嗨,請問 Mr. Paul Chang在嗎?

Janice: I'm sorry. Mr. Chang is in a meeting now. May I take a message?
Janice:抱歉,Mr. Chang 現在正在開會。我能幫您留言給他嗎?

Dan: No thanks. That's alright. Do you know when he will be out of his meeting?

Janice: May I ask who's calling?

Dan: My name is Dan Logan.

Janice: Let me check his schedule for the day… His meeting will finish at 3:00, and then he must rush into another one at 3:45.I think that it would be best if you left a message or tried calling back tomorrow.

Dan: He is always so busy, and tomorrow will be too late.

1.task (n.) 任務;職責

2. take a message 留言

3. rush (v.) 趕緊

4. wish (v.) 祝願

※ 小叮嚀:

wish 當「祝願」時,後面先接祝願的對象,再接祝願的內容(名詞)。

5. pass on 傳遞

例:I will be sure to pass the message on to him.

(我一定會轉告他的。)

例:To whom do you want me to pass the message on?

(你要我把訊息傳給誰?)

※ 小叮嚀:

傳遞的內容(名詞)可以放在副詞 on 的前面或後面,但如果是代名詞,只能在 on 的前面。如果要補充說明對象,要先加介系詞 to,再加對象。

※ 小叮嚀:

"It would be best if …" 是假設語氣的句型,表示現在尚未發生,但希望預期發生之事,所以if所接的子句也需用過去式表達。

"Be sure to …" 常放在句首當祈使句,以表示叮嚀聽話者必須記得做些什麼事。例:Be sure to turn off all the lights before you leave.(在你離開前,一定要關掉所有的燈。)
