昨天貴報傅建中專欄提及，「外交部發出的國慶請帖在中華民國之後加註台灣，不符史實。」
國慶酒會請柬的英文國名後加註台灣（Taiwan）自2004年起延用至今並非新作法。依據憲法，我國正式國名為中華民國，英文為Republic of China。國際上通稱為台灣，就是指中華民國。
為使國際間更為清楚分辨，2003年9月起，我國開始實施中華民國護照封面加註台灣；外交部亦於2004年9月通電各駐外館處於國慶酒會請柬之英文國名後加註台灣（Taiwan）字樣，多年來亦採相同用法。
